Damask
Damask Fabric is an ancient fabric. It was originally made from silk, although nowadays it can be made from a variety of materials, including cotton, wool, linen, viscose and synthetic fibres. Damask was produced in many places but was particularly high in Damascus, Syria where the fabric gets its name. Damask fabric is characterised by its durability, the elaborate patterns and the fact that it is reversible. The patterns are usually floral or geometric and it is woven on a Jacquard loom. The background and the pattern are contrasted by using different degrees of lustre.
