Batiste
Batiste is a strong, sheer fabric. It is generally manufactured from linen usually cambric, but can also be made from cotton, wool, polyester and other blends. It is constructed using a plain weave. Batiste is generally used for various garments such as dresses, shirts, underwear and handkerchiefs. Batiste is often used for linings on high-quality garments. Batiste gets its name from Jean Batiste a 13th Century linen weaver and is very delicate, it often snags on sewing machinery. It drapes very well but extra care should be taken when laundering. Batiste is often confused with lawn organdie as the two fabrics are very similar.
