Marni teams with Magnus Plessen for Fall/Winter collection
Two prints were created for the Marni collection using 2005 piece „Zwei Figuren“ (‚Two Figures‘) by Plessen, who is famed for mixing abstract and figurative designs in his painting,
The two patterns were reproduced on a mix of radzmir, satin viscose and jersey for dresses that debuted in the runway show at Milan Fashion Week in February this year. Now, Marni has added an accessories option and has printed the two designs on leather shoppers. You can get the bags for €1,180, while the dresses are priced at €1,630.
It’s something of a growing trend to collaborate with artists outside of brands. Acne used prints from the archive of 20th century Swedish painter Hilma af Klint for a capsule collection that arrived earlier this year. Dries Van Noten’s recent ballet-inspired Spring-Summer 2015 menswear show in Paris used a line-drawn illustration of a nude dancer by Richard Haines as a repeated print.
