LFW: highlights from the weekend
Mary Katrantzou
The Greek designer picked pleats and lace over prints this season, continuing a theme she started with her last Fall/Winter collection. Models walked on a rubber chip runway (designed to look like lava) with center-parted hair and wearing a series of stunning slip dresses with reworked versions of the classic London trench. Katrantzou’s fish, lizard and coral shapes and colors were inspired by Panthalassa, the global ocean that surrounded the Paleozoic supercontinent Pangaea.
David Koma
The Georgian designer, appointed late last year as creative director at Mugler, is continuing to build up a name for himself with his own collection’s London Fashion Week slot. His Spring/Summer 2015 looks featured tight-fitting, graphic shapes, in minimalist blocks of color, cut through with lines of sheer silk. As usual, leather was another key theme, along with crystals laid out in ordered patterns. Shoe options included strappy sandals, and mesh peep-toed booties.
Temperley London
Temperley worked with ample volumes for her breezy, relaxed Spring/Summer collection (models wore flat low-top plimsoll sneakers throughout). Opening with monochrome checked tailored pieces, and kimono jackets in pastel pinks and creams, she also showed off some stunning lace-fringed summer shirtdresses, light scarves, and slinky semi-sheer overcoats. The checks gave way to some richer colors, handsome stripes, and this season’s key trend, a trellis print.
