Latest Rihanna for River Island looks feature metallics, velvet and tartan
Rihanna’s fashion revolution was kickstarted earlier this year with her debut clothing collection (designed with Adam Selman) unveiled at this February’s London Fashion Week. Now the collaboration is coming to an end with the imminent release of the Barbadian singer’s final collection for the UK high street label.
„We’ve had an amazing year working with Rihanna,“ said River Island boss Ben Lewis. „She’s been an inspiration for our creative teams to work with and we’ve been constantly impressed by the amount of time and energy she’s invested in the project. Reactions to the collaboration have been very positive from fans around the world and we’re excited to see how they respond to her last collection for River Island,“ he added.
The 40-piece collection for Winter 2013 is packed with tartan pieces, as well as plenty of denim, shiny metallics, velvet and winter florals. There are also plenty of faux fur elements, from the sleeves of a sporty-luxe bomber, to cossack hats and fur-trimmed trucker hats.
„With River Island, everything was brand new in the beginning. They gave me creative freedom to do whatever I wanted to do,“ explained Rihanna. „I was inspired by so many things for the Spring/Summer collection and I was really able to get my hands dirty. I wanted the Autumn/Winter collection to be a continuation of the Spring/ Summer story which is why I incorporated some of the similar ideas using different techniques fitted for those Seasons.“
This year Rihanna has also collaborated with cosmetics brand MAC on a makeup line with the latest collection, RiRi MAC Holiday, unveiled this week in time for the festive season. So what’s next for the singer? Will the two fashion and beauty projects lead on to her own label in 2014?
