Dior and Chanel go international for Resort 2014

Raf Simons is set to show his first-ever Resort collection for Christian Dior on May 19, and the Belgian designer will travel to the independent principality of Monaco to show off the brand’s latest styles on the catwalk.

Dior’s last Resort looks were created by Bill Gaytten, the interim design director sandwiched between the well-publicized firing of British designer John Galliano for a drunken anti-Semitic tirade and the appointment of Simons last year.

Dior last staged an international runway show for a Resort collection back in May 2010, when the brand traveled to Shanghai, Galliano putting on a glamorous show in a tent by the Huangpu River in the historic colonial district, the Bund.

Meanwhile, Chanel will unveil its latest Resort collection in Singapore on May 9. The famous French brand, led by creative director Karl Lagerfeld, will be taking its Parisian chic to one of Asia’s financial capitals during the island state’s hottest period.

Last year Chanel’s 2013 Resort show, known as the Cruise collection, took place at the palace of Versailles. A Marie Antoinette-inspired feast of pastel pinks, the show was inspired by the idea of „Versailles in a Socialist France,“ according to Lagerfeld, and gave birth to an additional Versailles de Chanel cosmetics line. French beach resort Antibes hosted the show in 2011, and the year before that, Lagerfeld produced another Riviera-inspired extravaganza in Saint Tropez.
