Charlotta Olympia and Tom Binns go punk
The Metropolitan Museum in New York City is holding its annual Costume Institute summer exhibition (opened by the famous Gala ball, of course). This year the theme is „Punk: Chaos to Couture.“
Debuting May 9, it’s expected to be one of the city’s summer highlights, following in the footsteps of 2011’s Alexander McQueen retrospective and last year’s ‚conversation‘ between two of the grande dames of Italian fashion, Schiaparelli and Prada.
So with excitement about the latest exhibition building, jeweller Binns and Charlotte Olympia didn’t pass on the opportunity to give a few of her shoe and clutch designs a punk twist.
The ‘Dolly Riot‘ court shoe (€1,145) comes adorned with statement safety pins and a mirrored platform, while the famous Charlotte Olympia ‚Kitty‘ flats (€625) have turned anarchist, with neon faces and studded ears and piercings.
The ‚Pandora‘ clutch (€1,025) has also gone punk, and has been literally littered with Binns’s safety pins, as well as a giant metallic pin closure.
The designs will go on sale from May 2 at Charlotte Olympia stores in Mayfair and Manhattan, on www.charlotteolympia.com, and from Jeffrey New York and Moda Operandi.
