Liberty teams up with social shopping app
Founded in in 1875 Liberty is one of fashion’s oldest multibrand boutiques, but the company isn’t letting any newcomers get ahead of them in the tech game.
The retailer’s new project, launching at the end of the month for an eight-week trial, mixes Instagram and Apple’s iBeacon technology to create a social shopping experience which rewards shoppers for their likes and real-world purchases.
Instagram is proving itself a key fashion tool for fans of brands and retailers, and the Tapestry app creates personalized in-store rewards according to a user’s Instagram likes and their previous purchase history.
After downloading the app, you link it to a Liberty account (or create one inside the app), then sync it with your Instagram account. With your Bluetooth on, when you enter the store your phone will alert you to exclusive offers including special gifts, and extra reward points. These are generated with unique bar codes which can be redeemed at the counter.
The app also matches your Instagram likes with Liberty’s own brand mix. If you’re dosing out the likes for specific labels, the app will track it and create specialized perks for those brands. The Tapestry app can be downloaded from the App Store at the end of October, and will launch to Liberty Loyalty customers with their Autumn/Winter 2014 voucher points pre-loaded.
