Tokyo Fashion Week: highlights from day four

Japanese designer Yasutaka Funakoshi went typically dark and dramatic for Spring/Summer 2015. Models arrived on the gloomy runway with elaborate headpieces (some with lightbulbs hidden under giant brims, others made out of condom wrappers). Clotheswise the references moved between Victorian silks, burlesque underwear and avant-garde asymmetry. 

Yuki Torii 

Makeup and hair sat with this season’s 1960s vibe for Yuki Torii’s latest collection. The essentially casual silhouettes included some colorful digital prints, floaty silk dresses, broderie anglaise, and classic Chanel-inspired skirt and jacket combos. Footwear stuck to strappy sandals and sporty platform sneakers. 

Saito

Designer Sansai Saito and his son Jotaro Saito are masters of traditional Japanese clothing. There was a beguiling mix of stiffness and flexibility to the outfits, and a stunning range of traditional prints and bright post-modern motifs.
