Paris menswear: highlights from Carven, Valentino, Walter Van Beirendonck

Carven 

Guillaume Henry sent out his Carven boys in color-block shirting and outerwear, lace-up and buckled black shoes, and white sandals with matching socks. Colorwise, this was an almost wintery collection with a microcheck in gray, and solid navy blue, black and white, all lifted by a couple of tangerine and petrol blue pieces.

Walter Van Beirendonck

The Belgian legend injected some serious color and texture into the opening day of men’s shows in Paris. Extravagant brocade jackets were paired with wide leg trousers and colorful martial arts-style belts. Fearsome wild animal motifs and florals ranged across the prints and embroidery. 

Valentino 

Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli were typically restrained in their palette, playing with deep burgundy, gray, navy and greens, but went wilder with their floral and mythological patterns and their camo prints. The suiting was cut razor sharp and tight as usual, but lavish silk pieces came in looser, more relaxed shapes.
