Fashion designer Oscar De La Renta has died surrounded by friends and family at his Connecticut home yesterday evening. The designer dressed many influential ladies including Jackie Kennedy and Hilary Clinton. Most recently, De La Renta dressed Amal Clooney for her wedding to George Clooney in Italy.
Starting his fashion career as an apprentice at Balenciaga in the 50’s, he went on to work with fashion house Elizabeth Arden in New York eventually going on to create his own line. His designs became known for their feminine flamboyancy and were frequently seen gracing many a red carpet.
Though a truly iconic designer he was ever modest and known for his warm and charming personality. When once speaking of fashion it is reported he said “It’s not heavy. One might ask, what is Oscar De La Renta? It’s a pretty dress.” In early October the fashion house named Peter Copping as Creative Director.
