Isla Fisher in Confessions Of A Shopaholic, 2009

The girl in the green scarf… Isla Fisher stars as Rebecca Bloomwood, surely one of the most iconic women of the 2000s. She is a shopaholic with a passion for fashion, and let’s get real for a second, we all wanted her wardrobe when we were little.

She gave us the ultimate master class in personal style. Her deep love for fashion shows up in all the unique ways she dresses herself. Every outfit she wears is an explosion of colour, with mismatched hues, chunky accessories, and lots and lots of layering.

Costume designer Patricia Field, best known for her work on Sex and the City as well as The Devil Wears Prada, brought her signature bold, statement-making aesthetic to the film.

Field masterfully infused New York City fashion into the character’s wardrobe, ensuring each outfit reflected her personality. Rebecca’s playful and extravagant ensembles showcase her ambitious and dreamer-like nature.

Rebecca’s wardrobe is filled with bold hues like fuchsia, emerald green, and electric blue. With her maximalist taste, she often pairs luxurious fabrics such as silk, fur, and sequins, ultimately going against the minimalism that was trending in high fashion at the time. Mixing prints and textures in a way that expresses her chaotic, yet charming personality is her way to go.

A conversation about the film’s iconic fashion moments would not be complete without highlighting The Green Scarf by Denny & George, which also serves as a key element in the storyline. It symbolises her shopping addiction and financial recklessness tied to her love for fashion, which is emphasised throughout the movie with its repeated appearance.

From vintage pieces to luxury brands such as Gucci, Prada, Dior, Zac Posen, and Christian Louboutin, this film is THE ultimate watch for all the fashion aficionados. Its fashion moments remain memorable to this day, with outfits that blended fantasy and reality. At the end of the day, we are all shopaholics in disguise.
