PFW: retro Parisian style at Nina Ricci

Rumors are swirling. This collection could be the last at Nina Ricci for Copping, who explained in the show notes that he was inspired by the ingenuity of Parisian women during the years following World War II, with their “make do and mend” approach to fashion. 

On the runway, this meant a parade of 40s-style dresses and skirt suits, hemmed just above the knee or below. Most of the daywear looks are without frills, and the mood is one of thrifty elegance, notwithstanding a few exceptions such as a gold leather suit. Although solid colors dominate, there are also a couple of retro-inspired motifs, namely houndstooth and floral. The evening looks are more glamorous, with lace, laser-cut flowers and skirts split to reveal much of the thigh. 

While the color scheme is decidedly retro for the daywear looks (camel, blue, beige and rare touches of red), the evening looks turn the spotlight on black, white, seashell pink and navy blue.
