Etro
Etro Woman Autumn-Winter 2017-18 – Etro’s FW17 runway show saw a clash of prints and patterns. But that’s what you expect from Etro. Veronica Etro has never been shy of prints and colors, and put them — all of them it seems — on full display. Continuing on the label’s retro vibes, this collections was inspired by the ’60s and ’70s. The pieces themselves — kaftan dresses, patchwork shearling jackets, quilted puffers — were rooted in a traveler’s sensibilities. Appealing to Central Asian aesthetics, they had a nomadic air that was distilled through a vivid color palette and artful styling. However Etro’s need to keep things non-specific — the tribal patterns were culturally vague — left us wondering exactly which cultures exactly she was borrowing from (Central Asia is big and contains many sub-cultures and influences of its own, after all). But the sentiment was clear: we’re all travellers trying to find a place in this world. And it’s better to do it with bold expression, than boring uniformity.
