Oscar de la Renta Woman Autumn-Winter 2017-18 – The first show from Oscar De La Renta’s new creative directors, Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia had its highs and lows. Highs were the impeccable embellished, glamorous, award show-ready gowns we have come to know and love from Oscar De La Renta.

The show was opened by a collection from Monse, Garcia and Kim’s personal label, which could not have been further away from the De La Renta aesthetic. The pieces were deconstruction at its finest, white shirts and suits done well, but very different to what was to come.

The Oscar collection was certainly a celebration of colour, with vibrant pinks and reds frequently used, and even pops of fluorescent yellow. The show was opened simply, with all black jumpsuits and suits, with flashes of the Oscar rose logo in gold and silver. However, this quickly gave way to a collection of feminine dresses and tailoring, and highly structured dresses, greatly contrasting the looks at Monse. Many of the dresses had tight bodice tops with flowing structured skirts, which held their own as the models glided down the runway.

Certain pieces stood out from the crown, such as a structured magenta overcoat, with contrasting black lapels, and knee high slouch boots embellished all over with diamond flowers from toe to knee. The particularly striking red rose print over a silver backdrop was presented in a coat, a corset and trouser combination, and in a ball gown, and this glamorous combination felt more like classic De La Renta which we would have liked to see more of.
