J. Crew Woman Spring Summer 2017 – The J. Crew show opened on a singular note, as the collection was modelled by industry participants instead of models. Styled naturally, these models gave the clothing a unique vivacity and left the collection feeling relatable and attainable for every viewer.

A double-breasted black suit was among the first looks to opened the show, worn over a plaid collared shirt and matching bow tie. An off the shoulder shirt with buttons at the wrists followed, worn over distressed tan pants and green satin, square-toed heels. A number of long skirts, ruffled and gathered for volume, were paired with t-shirts and off the shoulder blouses. One beautiful look, comprised of pink, silky shorts and a pink gingham button down under a sheer, neon pink t-shirt, drew the eye immediately. Blazers, chinos with rolled hems, cardigans and button-down shirts formed the menswear portion, layered together with trench coats and more. Layered shades of blue and khaki dominated the menswear, with pops of pale pink, army green and plaid.

Ankle-strapped and pointed-toe heels accessorised many of the womenswear looks, while low-top sneakers, sockless oxfords and suede shoes accented the menswear looks. Stripes abounded, and various shades of tan, pink and blue brought this fresh collection to life. A classic brand, J. Crew offered the viewer a modish revision to the familiar pieces. Neon pom-poms dotted bags, polka dots spotted chiffon over blouses or layered in tiered skirts, and beads gave a pink satin skirt texture.

The diversity in the models, in age, race and gender, amplified the clothing shown by proving its wearability across each of these variants. The show felt preppy, modern, cool and versatile all at once. Details from beadwork and sequins, to distressing and patterned chiffon, brought the collection forward beyond simply being wardrobe basics.
