Hermés Woman Autumn-Winter 2016 – Equestrian style got a glamorous upgrade in this collection, with the quite simple boxy designs that opened the show slowly transformed into powerful eveningwear.

The jackets and dresses gave off the strongest horsewoman vibes, starting with the first brown satin and suede jacket. The design’s different fabric patches and combination with cropped trousers in the same shade, appeared as the first allusion to jockey attire, which was quickly followed by long silky dresses, also patched but this time using colours such as pink and caramel with white.

Many of the dresses also had an atmosphere of toughened-up formalwear, emphasised by the increasing use of leather as the collection went on. As a result, the models seemed to have been equally prepared to go out for dinner as to ride into battle, especially with the long leather gloves they wore extending up almost to their shoulders.

Likewise, structured blazers and coats, perfect for riding, were walked down the runway alongside more edgy styles in black leather and a combination of grey cashmere looks which seemed perfect for keeping warm whilst at the races. The stand-out jacket however was a hooded, fur-lined biker jacket, which brought softness and attitude together with a sense of otherworldliness, stressing that none of these pieces truly belonged in the yard.
