Giambattista Valli Woman Autumn-Winter 2016 – Skirts and dresses ruled the runway in a collection that brought out the fun side of feminine dressing.

Echoes of the Sixties abounded with black and white collared coat dresses and other high-necked designs particularly popular. The addition of pink, yellow and blue colours and floral designs such as lace leaves amongst the monochrome updated the looks and there was something romantic about the multitude of light white skirts teamed with them.

A particular highlight was a floral print top teamed with a black knitted cropped waistcoat and floaty white knee-length skirt, that perfectly combined suggestions of girly freedom with more formal dressing.

At times the designs also managed to pair modesty with sensuality; dresses with high roll necks were daringly short, for example, as with one black smock dress that was ruffled up to expose a piece of sparkly patterned material underneath.

Other looks saw the pieces given bundles of texture with fur long gilets and shiny black biker jackets layered over the top. As the collection reached its conclusion, the additional strength of these looks was also mirrored in the still romantic long evening dresses that hit the runway, with many teamed with long coats resembling formal robes, which suggested that the sixties girls had become grown-up sensual queens.
