Emanuel Ungaro
Emanuel Ungaro Woman Autumn-Winter 2016 – One print just wasn’t enough at Emanuel Ungaro, where animal print clashed just-so with floral and metallic designs.
Silky calf-length figure-hugging skirts and quite slim-legged culottes abounded in an array of prints from leopard and red and blue flowers against a white background to tweed, lace and geometric shapes. These were often brought in by a wide black belt with a large white jewel on the buckle adding elegance to the pieces and creating a flattering hourglass figure that linked the sometimes seemingly completely contrasting looks together.
But most strikingly, especially at the beginning of the show, was the decision to contrast these separates with shirts and jackets in one of the other prints. As a result, the leopard skirt clashed with a striking floral bomber jacket and a lace embroidered sheer shirt was worn with a oversized metallic gold skirt suit, to create an atmosphere of edgy sophistication.
A particular highlight was a slinky leopard print dress with texture-clashing thick lace trimming on the hem, around the pockets and forming a delicate bolero effect over the decolletage. With another jewelled black belt emphasising the waist, the model’s hands in the pockets of the design brought out the skirt, elongating her body and embodying reinforcing the naughty but nice connotations of the two fabrics.
