Alexander McQueen

Alexander McQueen Woman Autumn-Winter 2016 – Alexander McQueen made a triumphant return to London Fashion Week (from Paris) with an A/W 16-17 collection that combined the seriousness of Goth with the fun-loving airy feel of fantasy.

The show opened with a see through and bandaged maxi dress featuring a tiered peplum hem and fluted sleeves. Cut-outs in dresses revealing either shoulders, the middle of the chest or waists gave the collection a sexy feel.

Butterfly prints in black, white and grey featured prominently on some dresses. Colour was injected into the collection in the form of mini-dresses in peach and pink accentuated by corsets that were distinctly butterfly shaped. Miniskirts in black netting were worn over black high waisted under garments and paired with leather jackets featuring several brooches.

Sheer sheath dresses were embellished in either silver or gold pearl like buttons. One dress featured polka dots on one length of the body and a dramatic gold applique unicorn on its hind legs on the other half of the body. This was followed by more sheer dresses with strategically placed birds, unicorns and butterflies to give a fairy-tale feel to the collection.

All the hallmarks of Goth, drama and good craftsmanship that the label is famous for have continued under creative director Sarah Burton’s guidance.
