Mary Katrantzou

Mary Katrantzou Woman Autumn-Winter 2016 – Mary Katrantzou, winner of the British Fashion Council/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund 2015, showed a collection that managed to be pay homage to the past whilst being unquestionably modern.

A nod to the 60s was evident in the distinctive head scarves from that era that adorned models heads as they were clad in calf length skirts with draped shoulders. ‘Grandmother chic’ comes to mind but in a way that felt edgy, cool and distinctly innovative. The set design featuring silver balloons gave the collection a space-age feel to dispel any myths of this being a staid collection.

A youthful feel contrasted with the nod to the past by the use of unicorns, white flames and swirls on Ms Katrantzou’s designs. A particular highlight was a stole that when tied resembled a bird with the knot representing the bird’s beak.

Mary Katrantzou’s instantly recognisable bold prints were featured on miniskirts before the hemlines dropped to the floor in the form of embroidered gowns paired with sweaters or jackets.
