Spring-Summer 2012 – Karl Lagerfeld, never one to disappoint for hosting the dramatics, built an Air Chanel Jumbo Jet to host his couture show. With faux clouds above, the gangway as opposed to the catwalk made way for Chanel’s trolly dolly’s; the fashionable way to fly. Cutesy dresses in sky and deep blue were straight up-and-down; a waistless theme that prevailed throughout. Stand-away necklines scooped across the shoulder blades giving the clothes exciting, yet understated structure. Drop waists gave dresses and skirts a slouchy dimension, as did low front pockets. Hemlines lengthened through the course of the show reaching ankle-length and maintaining an almost streamline silhouette. Of course, what’s hostessing without a touch of glamour, for the Chanel girls they donned cockatoo hairstyles with thin and understated dangling earrings and trapeze puffed sleeves. Jewel buttons and sparkly sequins reached their pinnacle as brilliantly embroidered cocktail dresses in ocean blues and black. The contrast of simple and structured shapes worked brilliantly to deliver desirable pieces.
