Autumn-Winter 2012/13 – It was elegance embodied at the Chanel show as Karl Lagerfeld created a heavenly collection. Doing what he does best, Lagerfeld fabricated a more relaxed, and in this sense, perhaps a more ‘modern’ couture with tweed suits and sublime patchwork pieces in lilac and pink and grey and black. That woolen beanie hats became couture was representative of this new tone, and the shimmering silver tights that accompanied the majority of the collection will certainly be a trend to watch this fall. Slack pussy bow tops, trouser suits, and light colouring made for a prim, proper and Parisian collection, all with a shimmering overlay be it entwined in tweed or more blatant with sequins and embellished dresses. The overtly ornamented dresses like the pink pompom-clad column gown displayed how Chanel can dominate toned down clothing to the extravagant and more luxurious all in one show – from start to finish the collection was immaculate.
