Spring-Summer 2013 – Either there was a bust up in the dressing room of this show or Yohji Yamamoto was trying to tell us something. Bruised but not broken, these models held their head up high and what shone through was a fresh collection of glamorous street wear, and I mean literally, the clothes of someone who lives on the streets. Mismatching ill fitted clothes with the illusion of stains in the prints, billowing and brought in at the ankle, long shabby coats and ‘make do and mend’ patchwork. This was fashion with an edge, an interest in nonchalance, fashion saying ‘we don’t care what we wear or what people say about us’ but still getting it so right. Was Yohiji implying this was himself and his brands current moto? Well, whatever it was, he pulled it off beautifully.
