Spring-Summer 2013 – Models on bicycles were gracing the catwalks of the Issey Miyake 2013 spring summer collection. It is a summer activity with a city feel which was exactly what the collection conveyed. Loose and airy clothing in lightweight fabrics draped over bodies are perfect for hot summer days in a stifling city. The designer stuck to the labels signature oriental silhouette with rounded shoulder, collarless shirts and low cut v-necks, which gave it a sort of rural look. This he combined with urban nods, using bright colours, head to toe tie dye and reflective strips on day-glow yellow and orange, continuing the urban biking theme. The fabrics of the collection, based on Japanese culture included washi paper; a durable Japanese paper coated in weather resistant wax, which enveloped the models in very unusual yet sporty shapes and looked rather like a form of origami. This was a really fresh collection for summer.
