Autumn-Winter 2012/13 – It was fashion’s version of J.K Rowlings’s ‘Dementor’s’ at the Rick Owens AW show. Flames lit up at the top of the catwalk ready for the models who looked incredibly eery with reworked stringy balaclavas, elongated draping’s of fabric and cape-like outerwear. It was as if the grim-reaper had come to town; every inch of the body was taken over by the ultra-long clothes leaving no flesh on show other than the tips of fingers peeping out of fingerless clothes -laying was central for this drapery effect. There was an unfinished element too, as if the fabric had been left uncut; rather than sculpting the silhouette, it merely wrapped around it finishing with fuzzy edges. To perpetuate this almost ‘lifeless’ show was the palette of charcoal and grey, changing only slightly for creams and browns. Owens created a statement today; the message was transient but it was clear.
