Autumn-Winter 2012/13 – The amethyst and crystal stalagmites creating the catwalk displayed the spectrum for what was to grace us with a dazzling presence, and by dazzling, there were shimmering tweed suits comprising heavy jackets, knee-length skirts, and trousers underneath; the new three-piece. Embellished, glittering eyebrows, chunky gem-jewels (of space-age instigation) and the roomy silhouette – helped by thick deep layering – meant there were wide-shouldered trench coats and loose knitwear. The three-piece was the premise for the build up of clothing in green, purple, red, black, and white. Oversized coats came down to one’s ankle and clashing prints were in abundance. There were sculpted shoulders and miniature tweed rucksacks before a rush of billowy, thin, glass-print dresses, then more conservative ones with embellished shoulders and next, extravagantly bejeweled cuffs. On the edge of extreme innovation came the lace, feathered and metallic numbers which summed up perfectly the controversy yet the creativity and genius of Lagerfeld.
