Comme des Garçons
Autumn-Winter 2010/11 –The models burst onto the catwalk quite literally. Not only did they look stuffed, but their clothes had been extravagantly stuffed. The silhouette had ballooned. Rei Kawakubo was playing with portion and scale. Black knee-length trench coats and dresses were bursting at the seams with over indulgent padding. Combined with their little white faces and black bandaged chins and hair, the models resembled sumo-wrestlers. The voluptuous shapes culminated in white dresses with bubbles of padding all over, and ruffled skirts being dramatically reshaped for a plumper look. Pin stripe jackets were also bursting at the seams to reveal fluffl padding underneath and the white tops and trousers made the girls look like giant marshmallows. It wasn’t all about the volume as white dresses of the same substance were given more of a sculptured look It was a boisterous collection, but catwalkyourself is skeptical of the wearability of the collection.
