Alexander McQueen
Alexander McQueen Women Spring Summer 2016 –
In step away from the dark aesthetic of her previous collections, Sarah Burton’s vision for Alexander McQueen SS16 was undeniably romantic; an air of otherworldliness wafted over the collection, as though we were being transported back in time to a regal garden in an unknown, exotic land. Floral patterns were made into different creations: textured and embroidered, sewn together with a smattering of sequins; floral jacquards detailing silk faille; sewn into dusky rose leather with metallic threads.
Ruffles adorned nearly every form of garment, and spoke of hours of work and intricate sewing. On a slightly edgier note, and one which people of the Alexander McQueen brand are familiar with, silver metal chain body harnesses were layered underneath jackets, and hand crocheted dresses trailed to the floor. Burton’s shoes were clumpy; hand painted, mule style platforms, some with an inwardly curving heel. She sent her models down the catwalk naturally made up, and with loosely plaited hair, which accentuated the feminine and elaborate detailing of the collection.
