Founded by Miuccia Prada in 1992

Miu Miu is a brand from the Prada Group. Introduced by Miuccia Prada in 1992, Miu Miu was inspired by Miuccia’s personal wardrobe and named after her family nickname.

With an independent identity from Prada, the brand has grown into one of the leading high fashion labels in the world. The store has boutiques world wide including China, the US and Europe and has international spokesmodels and actresses  in Katie Holmes, Ginta Lapina, Zhous Xun, Lindsay Lohan, Kirsten Dunst and Hailee Steinfeld.

Miu Miu focuses wholly on their unique female designs that feature an ironic air. Boundaries between elegant and trashy are ignored, resulting in a beautiful chic expression with an aesthetic that’s covered in a hint of humour.

The brand has separated itself from Prada by moving Miu Miu’s headquarters away from Prada’s in Milan. Unlike them, Miu Miu has staged fashion shows worldwide in Milan, New York, London and finally settling in Paris in 2006. Since then Miu Miu has taken inspiration from the city’s magnificent sets, using them as a background to the labels experimentation.

The Prada group successfully repositioned Miu Miu as a prominent high fashion brand known for its avant-garde, provocative style. With clothes that feature painstaking attention to detail and quality, the designs evoke a sense of freedom in a classic style for the luxury Italian label.

Miu Miu has a global presence with boutiques across various countries, designed by architect Roberto Baciocchi. Their stores feature unique and stylish interiors in cities like Milan, Paris, Hong Kong, Florence, London, New York, and Taipei.

In 2009, Miu Miu expanded its reach by opening its first independent store in China, located at The Mixc in Shenzhen. They also established their presence in North America with stores in Houston, Texas, and Short Hills, New Jersey. Additionally, Miu Miu opened boutiques in Melbourne, Glasgow, and Tokyo.

In London, the Miu Miu Sloane Street store underwent refurbishment and introduced a customisation service, allowing customers to design their own heels, making it the only Miu Miu store worldwide to offer this service.

Miu Miu has had various well-known faces as spokes-models, including Laetitia Casta, Kirsten Dunst, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Katie Holmes, Lindsay Lohan, Vanessa Paradis, Chloë Sevigny, Jessica Stam, Joan Smalls, and many others. Over the years, the brand has collaborated with prominent female directors for their Women’s Tales series, producing short films showcasing Miu Miu’s collections.

The brand has faced controversies related to alleged violations of women’s rights and sexual harassment issues, leading to petitions and discussions in the media.

In terms of advertising, Miu Miu has worked with actresses Hailee Steinfeld, Elle Fanning, and South Korean singer Im Yoon-ah, as brand ambassadors, and most recently, Japanese singer and dancer Momo Hirai as the Japanese ambassador.
