Vivienne Westwood Red Label
Vivienne Westwood Red Label Women Spring Summer 2016 – Westwood wouldn’t be Westwood without an underlying political statement. ‘Mirror the World’ was the title of the show and the message was a protest against austerity and climate change. Never one for subtlety, protesters marched in to the venue brandishing placards emblazoned with Vivienne’s vision.
Vivienne’s climate warriors stayed true to their roots wearing staple tartan dresses and accessories, proving the punk origins of the brand were ever present. Crystal body harnesses and black war paint smeared across the eyes confirmed that they meant business. Soft floral tea dresses and feminine bias cut gowns sat alongside masculine tailoring with crisp suits. Blacks and greys contrasted with lilac, pale pink and baby blue.
Signature Westwood draping was apparent throughout, as were her recognisable angular silhouettes. Standout looks included a layered tulle skirt paired with a floral bodice and white tailored jacket and a lemon yellow shift dress emblazoned with crystal brooches.
When explaining her choice of title Vivienne mused; “What is a good life? One which mirrors the world.”
