Jonathan Saunders
Jonathan Saunders Women Spring Summer 2016 – A long awaited splash of summer colour was brought by Jonathan Saunders this afternoon. Inspired by David Hockney and sculptures by Beverley Pepper the show space was a specially built glass house of mirrors.
Kimono style wrap dresses featured clashing coloured trims and belts, covered in tile print florals. Breezy skirts, wide leg trousers and loose tops ensured there was nothing restrictive about these pieces. Flowing bias cut silk dresses appeared in tones of orange and lemon yellow. Colours were used in interesting combinations of light blue with nude and deep burgundy with white. Asymmetric clashing checks and stripes looked fresh and current whilst erratic polka dots were scattered in no particular pattern.
There was a hint of Japonism with belted kimonos, obi belts and intricate floral prints. Saunders experimented with layering long jackets over shorter ones and draped tasselled scarves over and under silk camisoles. Models wore 90’s inspired electric blue eyeliner and simple flat or heeled sandals to complete the relaxed vibe.
