Gareth Pugh
Gareth Pugh Women Spring Summer 2016 – Gareth Pugh first came to the fashion world’s attention around 10 years ago. An enfant terrible, he brings the dark and twisted to life in a completely unique way.
Pennies were strewn over the surface of the show space, a collection inspired by the danger and possibilities of old SoHo began to unfold. Less dark than Pugh’s previous creations, the nightclub energy told us this show was about letting off steam and having fun with clothes again.
It was hard to ignore the exaggerated brows and starry eyes as models were made up to look like drag superstar Divine. Shocking red, white and black wigs stood on end as they came down the runway, legs shining in PVC tights. Cherry red and white candy stripes were worn with oversized bows for a look that makeup artist Val Garland referred to as “schitzo disco”. Coin embellished dresses literally screamed money whilst black and white harlequin checks were reminiscent of Pugh’s earlier collections.
Despite the theatrics, the tailored suits, beautifully draped dresses and leather pieces were very wearable. This was a new Gareth Pugh, less goth, more club kid.
