Assemblage

Assemblage as an art form is related to Collage and Cubism in that they all assemble objects in a three-dimensional manner in order for new perspectives to be shown. Any objects whether natural or unnatural are usually moulded and manufactured into new forms. Many art critics including William Seitz in 1961 in New York portrayed that Assemblage holds a new association with the environment, it was this exhibition which William Seitz critiqued that gave Assemblage a wide public currency. More than 140 international artists including Braque, Joseph Cornell, Marcel Duchamp, Picasso and Man Ray exhibited works in the exhibition, proving that Assemblage as a form contributed to many different areas in art.
