Elizabeth Taylor had a mere three costume changes in this film but they were definitely memorable ones. The costume designer Helen Rose kept it simple but with immaculate tailoring and timeless items, she produced a wardrobe that every woman would want and one that showcased all aspects of her talent.

The first being a simple beige pencil skirt and white short sleeved blouse with covered buttons, topping it off with an orange belt and gold accessories there was a definite air of total class about it. Next she showed the gorgeous Elizabeth in a white lace and satin slip, worn only in the home but for the first time suggesting underwear as outerwear, which is still a popular trend today.

The final outfit was one she had to fight for, when the studio wanted a simple shirt dress, Helen and Elizabeth championed the Greek style silk pleated dress, which was not only reproduced in Rose’s collection but also by other manufacturers become one of the most iconic dresses from a film.
