Pat and Mike (1952)
Orry Kelly strikes again with this sporty film starring Katherine Hepburn as an exceptional athlete. It is a hard task to find a film in which the actress doesn’t set trends, and this one is no different. She is known for her relaxed attitude towards fashion, leaning rather towards more comfortable clothes such as high waisted trousers and loose jumpers where women were wearing tight fitting skirts and more feminine attire.
Hepburn’s influence on women was that they were not confined to the restrictions expected of them, they could be whomever or whatever they wanted, and this film went a long way to influencing sportswear for women, with her short shorts, loose fitting male shirts and argyle sweaters with skirts.
