Maison Margiela
Maison Margiela Woman Autumn-Winter 2016 – Maison Margiela took the practicality and necessity of your winter coat and added fun, flair and individuality for autumn/winter 2016.
There was a sense that the collection had been deconstructed with different textures and designs combined together. Shiny leather and plastic were teamed with khaki, fur and wool, with colour combinations, whilst all traditionally autumnal, saw a vast array of brown, black, plum, red and nude tones used side by side.
Despite the strong, heavy-duty attitude of the looks however, a feeling of femininity also came through. In particular, the frequent use of wide buckled belts to clinch the looks in at the waist alongside knee-length a-line skirts of various materials and colours created an hourglass silhouette.
The models’ accessories emphasised this further. Everything was oversized, from knitted muffs and gloves to neck ties, plastic earrings and shoulder bags, helping to bring the seemingly so contrasting components of the looks together.
And the drama didn’t stop with the clothes. Hairstyles were a creative mix of straightened bowl cuts accomplished through wigs and punk rock inspired coloured hair nets, adding additional edge and another layer to the complicated, dramatic designs.
